Jindal Pipes Limited is one of India's largest manufacturers of ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) steel pipes and tubes, producing both Black (MS) and Galvanized (GI) varieties. Founded as part of the O.P. Jindal Group, JPL has manufacturing plants at Sahibabad (Delhi NCR), Raipur, and Nashik.
JPL pipes are manufactured using the Electric Resistance Welding process — where a strip of mild steel is cold-formed into a cylindrical shape and the seam is welded using high-frequency electric current, resulting in a strong, uniform weld. The pipes are then heat-treated, straightened, and tested before dispatch.

MS (Mild Steel / Black) Pipes
MS (Mild Steel) pipes — also known as Black Steel pipes — are manufactured from low-carbon steel strips using the ERW process. The term "Black" refers to the mill-scale finish left after the welding and rolling process, without any surface coating.
Jindal Star MS pipes conform to IS:1239 Part-1 (2004) for nominal sizes ½" to 6", and IS:3589 (2001) for larger diameters up to 20" NB. They are produced in three wall thicknesses — Light, Medium, and Heavy — to suit different pressure and load requirements.
MS pipes are the most widely used structural and fluid-transport pipes in construction, fabrication, and industrial applications across India due to their high strength, machinability, and competitive cost.
Note on IS:1239 Grades
Light grade is used for low-pressure applications. Medium grade is suitable for general plumbing and moderate pressure. Heavy grade is recommended for high-pressure systems, fire fighting, and structural use.
Product Range
GI (Galvanized Iron) Pipes
GI (Galvanized Iron) pipes are MS pipes that have been coated with a layer of zinc through the hot-dip galvanization process. The steel pipe is first cleaned (pickled), fluxed, and then immersed in a bath of molten zinc at approximately 450°C. This creates a metallurgically bonded zinc coating on both the inner and outer surfaces.
Jindal Star GI pipes conform to IS:1239 Part-1 (2004) and IS:3589, with zinc coating per IS:4736. The galvanization provides excellent corrosion resistance, making GI pipes ideal for water supply, agricultural irrigation, and fire fighting systems.
GI pipes are available in the same size range and wall grades as MS pipes (Light, Medium, Heavy) — the only difference being the zinc-coated finish. The coating life depends on the environment: 20–40 years in normal conditions.
